概要
本稿では、環境と人間の関係について、アーティストが媒体となってその再構築をめざす活動について考察する。環境という人類全体に突きつけられた課題について、多様な自然と文化が調和的な相互関係を築くという新たな共通認識を提示することが可能だろうか。はじめに、この問題の状況とその阻害された関係性の再構築に取り組むアーティストたちの活動について触れる。続いて、1960年代の終わりから一貫して、環境の持続・再生とそれに不可欠なモラルを主題として、夫婦でのコラボレーションを続けているエコロジカル・アートの先駆的作家、ヘレン・マイヤー・ハリソンとニュートン・ハリソンの作品と諸活動を具体的に分析する。なかでも、ヨーロッパ全体を敷地に未来の自然と文化の生態系についての新たなヴィジョンを提案するという大規模な作品＜ヨーロッパ半島＞や＜グリーン・ハート・ヴィジョン＞、＜未来の庭＞など、地球規模でのプロジェクトを紹介する。その芸術的な介在によって、自然や環境に対する姿勢の変化をもたらし、情報の共有、話し合い、参加、協働、交流という過程を通じて、分野や地域を超えた人と人とのネットワークを創り出し、共通の倫理観を認識する契機となることをめざすというその過程を検証する。さらに、アートが公共の課題にむけ、新たなヴィジョンを提案するひとつの可能性について考察する。

Summary
In this paper, various contemporary artistic activities to reconnect the relation between environment and human are studied, and their attempts to present a new vision and a model for environmental issues beyond national and ethnical boundaries are discussed. To begin with, latest situation and the artistic intervention for these issues are summarized. Consequently, the work of pioneering ecological artists, Helen Mayer Harrison and Newton Harrison, who have been collaborating since late 1960s for their subject of the diversity, sustainability and indispensable ethic is studied. Their huge scale project “Peninsula Europe” which proposes a future vision of the natural and cultural landscape in Europe, as well as other projects such as “Green Heart Vision” and “Future Garden” are analyzed. Through the above discussion and analysis of their creating procedure, the possibility to open up dialogues among people about the perception of nature and environment is examined. Harrisons’ icon and metaphor based on the real environment are applied to create a network system and common ethic for the issues through the dialogue, participation and shared memory. According to their activities, finally, a possibility of artistic intervention to present a common vision for the public interests is studied.
